Turkish Airlines has announced the resumption of its daily Lagos-Istanbul flights starting Saturday, May 25, 2024. This decision follows assurances from the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) regarding the safety of its equipment, personnel, and passengers.
In a statement from its Communications Department, Turkish Airlines confirmed that it had notified the relevant authorities about its inability to resume scheduled flights before Saturday. The airline emphasized that it would continue operations as long as the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and FAAN ensure the safety of its flights, crew, and passengers.
The airline suspended its services to Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, due to disruptions caused by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).
The statement further explained: “After evaluating our request and holding meetings, the NCAA and FAAN issued a joint press release announcing that additional security measures will be taken to prevent such incidents from occurring again. Additionally, the FAAN General Manager shared a written statement with us, committing to taking unprecedented measures to ensure the safety of our operations.”
Turkish Airlines expressed appreciation for the assurances provided by the authorities and reaffirmed its commitment to adhering to the laws and regulations of the countries in which it operates. The airline also underscored its dedication to international business ethics and prioritizing the safety and security of its passengers and crew in all its operations.
