RwandAir has announced the resumption of flights operation to O. R. Tambo International Airport, Johannesburg from Lagos Airport and Abuja Airport. Starting from May 7, 2021, Passengers from Nigeria can travel with RwandAir to Johannesburg, South Africa.
The flight from Nigeria to Johannesburg, South Africa is not direct. There will be a stopover at Kigali International Airport before passengers will depart Kigali International Airport to Johannesburg.

Recall that RwandAir suspended flight services to South Africa due to the Strain of the virus in the country. RwandAir suspended flights to other countries like Lusaka, and Harare. While RwandAir will resume flight activities to Johannesburg, flight services to Cape Town will remain suspended until further notice.
Rwanda Corona Virus Requirement
Rwanda has similar covid-19 rules just like other countries.
- A negative certificate of a PCR Covid-19 test performed within 72 hours of departure time is mandatory for all passengers arriving or transiting through Kigali International Airport (KGL).
- Passengers arriving or transiting in Rwanda are required to complete a passenger locator form (PLF) https://www.rbc.gov.rw/travel and upload the Covid-19 test certificate before heading to the airport.
- If a passenger test positive for coronavirus while in Rwanda, the traveller will be treated at his/her own cost.
RwandAir Flight Schedule from Lagos to Johannesburg
RwandAir flies 4 times a week from Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos to Johannesburg, South Africa. A search on the airline’s website shows that the flight days from Lagos to Johannesburg are Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
The airline may add more flights if there is an increase in the number of passengers.
RwandAir Flight Schedule from Abuja to Johannesburg
RwandAir started with just one flight from Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja to O. R. Tambo International Airport, Johannesburg. From May 14, 2021, RwandAir will operate 2 flights a week to Johannesburg, South Africa. The flight days are Sunday and Friday.
