Plans are underway to resume the train service from Lagos to Kano.
Ismail Adebiyi, the Nigeria Railway Corporation, Regional District Manager, Northern District, disclosed to newsmen in Zaria, Kaduna that the cooperation mechanical department has been charged to rehabilitate 100 train coaches that will be used to restart the Lagos to Kano train services.
Regional District Manager, Ismail Adebiyi, said 21 Out of the 100 coaches that would be rehabilitated by the Nigeria Railway Corporation would be deployed to serve the Northern District. The Nigeria Railway Corporation, Northern District includes Kaduna, Kano, Jigawa, Yobe, Katsina and Zamfara states.
In the next two months, the Nigeria Railway Corporation Mechanical department will be working to rehabilitate the100 wagons that will be used to reinforce the train services in Nigeria.
According to Ismail Adebiyi, the Nigeria Railway Corporation also has plans to start Kaduna to Kafanchan and Kaduna Kano train service before the end of August.
The issue of security will be addressed properly as the cooperation has partnered with relevant security agencies to assist in tackling the rail track vandalizing and other security issues faced by the cooperation according to Adebiyi.
