Promise fulfilled. Anambra state Governor Wilie Obiano has done it for Ndi Anambra. Today, April 30, 2021, Anambra state governor, well-wishers and the good people of Anambra state officially launched the Anambra International Passenger and Cargo Airport, Umueri.
Major work on the airport project started last year in January 2020 and today 30 April 2021 Governor, Willie Obiano commissioned the project.
Anambra has one of the largest markets in West Africa and they surely deserve a passenger and cargo airport. Anambra is a commercial state in Nigeria with lots of active markets. Lots of Anambra people are mostly business-oriented people.
A friend said, “so, I no longer have to first stop at Owerri, Benin or Asaba before getting home”. The above-mentioned state’s airports are mostly used by Anambra people. I have a particular customer that flies to Owerri from Abuja but prefers to use Asaba to return because of the Owerri traffic.
No more alternative airport as travellers will now fly directly from anywhere to Anambra state. Although, the alternative airport can still play a vital role especial when flights to Anambra are sold out. Passengers can use the alternative airport in Owerri, Asaba and Benin.
Anambra International Cargo Airport, Umueri was launched with 2 flights. The first flight that touched down at the international passengers and cargo airport is Air Peace followed by a private jet.
It might interest you to know that 3 airlines in Nigeria are owned by Anambra citizens. The airlines owned by Anambra entrepreneurs are
- The leading airline in Nigeria, Air Peace owned by Allen Onyema.
- The newest airline, United Nigeria Airlines, owned by Obiora Okonkwo.
- Havila Airlines, owned by Chidi Anyaegbu.
This airport will be one of the busiest airports in Nigeria. The airport was built in such a way that it will allow both night and day flights to land. The airport has a satellite landing system that will allow flights to land any day and in any weather condition.
Talking about business opportunities, the airport will attract both airlines and other ancillary service providers like travel agencies, restaurants, Bureau de Change operators, retailers, cab drivers, car hire services, etc.
Congratulations to Ndi Anambra
