Exciting developments are on the horizon for Ebonyi State as the government finalizes plans to launch its airline, starting with acquiring four aircraft. This initiative is set to ensure the successful commencement of operations at the Chuba Okadigbo International Airport in Onueke, Ezza South local government area.
Mrs Ngozi Obichukwu, the state commissioner for aviation and transport technology, announced the ambitious plan during an inspection tour of the newly completed 3.5-kilometre runway. She revealed that, in addition to the four aircraft being procured by the state, several investors have shown interest in providing an extra three jets. This strategic move is expected to significantly boost Ebonyi’s economic base and enhance its visibility on the global stage.
“We will soon start operating our aircraft. Once flight operations commence at the airport, we have investors ready to supply us with three additional planes. Agreements have been made, and soon this vision will become a reality,” stated Mrs. Obichukwu.
Governor Francis Nwifuru is deeply committed to this project, aiming to position the airport as the economic hub of the Southeast region. The governor’s enthusiasm is palpable, with plans to launch the four aircraft simultaneously, a development that will certainly make headlines.
The completion of the runway marks a significant milestone, with commercial operations expected to kick off in August. The highlight of the launch will be President Bola Tinubu flying into the state through the newly completed airport.
Moreover, the state government has ambitious plans to establish an aeronautic university within the airport environment, further cementing Ebonyi’s commitment to advancing aviation and transport technology.
