The Ebonyi government announced on Wednesday that it had spent N17.3 billion on remedial work at the Chuba Okadigbo International Airport runway in Abakaliki. Governor Francis Nwifuru made this statement during his first-anniversary address in Abakaliki.
Upon assuming office, Nwifuru’s administration also cleared five months of salary arrears owed to airport workers. “The remedial work at the Chuba Okadigbo International Airport runway has been completed. N17.3 billion was spent, while major repairs in the terminal building and control tower have commenced in earnest and are at an advanced stage. To this end, flight operations will commence fully at the airport,” the governor said.
Nwifuru highlighted that his administration has taken significant steps to improve the state’s security architecture within his first year in office. Several road projects have also been completed, demonstrating the administration’s commitment to enhancing rural economies by ensuring agro-allied products are efficiently transported to urban centers.
Some completed rural roads include the Umuoghara Power Station road, Legacy FM road on concrete pavement, and the Obvuduechi market-Iziogo road. Nwifuru emphasized the administration’s focus on creating an enabling environment for public-private sector partnerships, which he identified as crucial for the state’s economic growth. (NAN)
